USCar Trader import service

Import this model from the USA or Canada

Choose a specific vehicle. Where data is available, its detail page shows the import cost calculation. We assess any possible duty benefit with you before purchase.

Important: A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact us before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support through the process. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Model profile

Model history and generations

Model history and generations

The modern 3500HD spans three generations. The GMT900 platform (2007-2014) introduced the 6.6-litre Duramax LMM and later LML diesel alongside the 6.0-litre Vortec gas V8. The K2XX generation (2015-2019) sharpened the styling and added the L5P Duramax in 2017 together with a stronger frame.

Powertrain and equipment

Engines, drivetrain and trims

Engines and drivetrain

Two engines dominate US listings. The 6.6-litre L8T gasoline V8 makes 401 hp and 464 lb-ft and is the value choice for lighter duty.

Which trim makes sense

Trims run from the fleet-focused WT (Work Truck) and Custom through LT, the leather-lined LTZ and the loaded High Country. Cab choices are Regular, Double and Crew; bed lengths are 8-foot long-bed on most 3500HD configurations.

North American market and suitability

Supply on the US market

Supply is deep and nationwide, from ex-fleet high-mile diesels to lightly used ranch trucks.

Who benefits from importing

This is a truck for people with a real towing or payload job: horse and car trailers, boats, campers, agricultural or trade use.

Pre-purchase review

Model-specific inspection points

Known weak points and maintenance

The L5P Duramax is a strong engine, but it uses a Bosch CP4.2 high-pressure fuel pump; a failure can send debris through the fuel system, so many owners fit a lift-pump/disaster-prevention kit and use clean fuel. On older LML diesels the CP4 issue is better known still. Emissions hardware (DEF injector, NOx sensors, DPF) throws faults if the truck is chronically short-tripped.

Germany and Europe

Differences, adaptation and registration

US and EU spec compared

US trucks run amber front turn signals combined with the running lights, a red-only rear cluster without a separate rear fog lamp, and miles-per-hour instruments.

TÜV, modifications and registration

Typical work: fitting a rear fog lamp, adapting the lighting to ECE requirements, and confirming the odometer in kilometres or documenting the mile-to-kilometre reading.

USCar Trader services

Inspection, purchase processing and escrow

As a buyer based in Germany, you do not have to inspect the vehicle yourself in the United States or Canada. Within the agreed scope, USCar Trader can coordinate document review, a separately commissioned on-site inspection and purchase processing.

  • Vehicle profile and history: The profile can show the VIN, US title status and available history records. No data source guarantees that every earlier event was reported.
  • Optional CARFAX report: Additional reported maintenance or service entries can be included. The report is not a complete service book or proof of every interval.
  • On-site inspection / USCT AutoCheck: USCar Trader can arrange a separately booked vehicle inspection. Agreed visible and accessible areas are documented. Road or functional tests require suitable access and seller approval; the visual review is not a lift inspection or workshop diagnosis.
  • Purchase processing and escrow: After approval, USCar Trader can coordinate seller contact, negotiation, contract and the escrow and import service. Fees, payment route and responsibilities are recorded in advance.
  • Recalls: Open safety recalls can be checked by VIN through the NHTSA recall search; they do not describe overall condition.

Covered inspection points are agreed in advance. An on-site inspection records condition at the appointment and is not a guarantee.

Next step: Before commissioning, USCar Trader and the customer agree which document, history, inspection and transaction checks suit the vehicle and are included in the service. This records what was actually checked.

Questions and answers

Common questions about importing this model

Is the Duramax diesel or the gas V8 better for import?

For heavy towing the L5P Duramax is worth the extra cost and complexity; for lighter use the L8T gas V8 is simpler and cheaper to maintain.

Can a Silverado 3500HD pass German TÜV?

Yes, via individual approval. Lighting and emissions items are the usual adjustments; a rust-free, well-documented truck passes without drama.

Does this vehicle automatically qualify for a 0% import-duty rate?

No, not automatically. A 0% EU import-duty rate may be available for a vehicle covered by Regulation (EU) 2026/1455 that has US origin and is imported directly into the EU. CETA may apply to a vehicle with preferential Canadian origin. Whether the requirements are met is assessed for the individual case. Please contact USCar Trader before purchase; we review the possible duty benefit and provide non-binding support. Import VAT and other costs are assessed separately.

Is the dually (DRW) hard to register in Germany?

No, but its width and weight class affect insurance and some road rules. We confirm the configuration before purchase.

What mileage is acceptable on a used one?

Well-serviced Duramax diesels are sound well beyond 200,000 miles; documentation matters more than the raw number.

Will the odometer stay in miles?

The cluster reads miles; the reading is documented and converted for German registration.

How long does import take?

Typically several weeks from purchase to registration, driven mainly by ocean freight and inspection scheduling.

How can a specific Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD be checked from Germany?

Available VIN, title and history information can be reviewed in the vehicle profile. USCar Trader can also arrange a separately booked on-site inspection within a scope agreed in advance.
